Villa Unión landslide destroys homes in Comayagüela, Honduras
Heavy rainfall in Comayagüela, Honduras, has triggered a major landslide in the Villa Unión sector, causing significant property damage and forcing mass evacuations.
According to Colonel William Guzmán of the Armed Forces, the landslide destroyed three homes and buried 10 others, rendering them uninhabitable. Municipal authorities reported that seven houses were completely destroyed and six others were affected. Emergency responders successfully rescued three citizens who were trapped under the debris.
To mitigate further risk, 71 residents have been moved to municipal shelters. While no fatalities or missing persons have been reported, authorities warn that the danger persists due to soil saturation. Officials are currently evaluating whether the affected area will need to be declared uninhabitable.
