LEADER program drives rural development in Austria and Germany
The LEADER program continues to facilitate rural development through targeted funding and regional cooperation in Austria and Germany.
In Austria, the LEADER-Region Mostlandl Hausruck supports municipalities, businesses, and private individuals to implement innovative local projects. Managed by Geschäftsführer Christoph Mader, the initiative focuses on sectors such as agriculture, economy, and nature conservation. Funding levels range from 40 to 80 percent depending on the project. Current initiatives include regional bicycle network planning, circular economy projects, and software for renewable energy communities.
In Germany, the LEADER-Region Schwalm-Aue has allocated 90,000 euros to 23 projects this year, including nine youth-focused initiatives. Since the start of the 2023–2027 funding period, approximately 1.5 million euros in LEADER funds have flowed into the Schwalm-Aue region. Supported by the EU, the state of Hessen, and the federal government, these funds cover diverse projects such as technical equipment for fire departments, the creation of a reading tower, and the development of sports facilities like padel tennis and skate parks.
