Leadership crisis at Hungarian Ministry of Rural Development
Renáta Mészáros has resigned from her position as Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Rural Development and Settlements, effective August 31. While Minister Viktória Lőrincz stated the resignation was due to personal reasons and changes in life circumstances, Fidesz MP Miklós Panyi criticized the departure, suggesting the official left due to unsustainable working conditions shortly after her appointment.
The leadership instability at the ministry coincides with growing criticism regarding the handling of local development issues. In Szombathely, local officials have expressed frustration over delays in government funding for asbestos remediation. Mayor András Nemény announced that the municipality must fund the urgent work from its own budget to avoid weather-related delays, as the government has yet to launch the promised three-billion-forint asbestos fund.
