Leagate Inn in Coningsby defends chef after roast video triggers hygiene backlash
The Leagate Inn, a pub in Coningsby, Lincolnshire owned by Harry and Laura of Spaniel Inns Ltd, posted a Facebook video on July 14 showing a chef plating a pork roast dinner using his bare hands. The clip prompted more than 90 critical comments, with viewers claiming they would not eat food handled directly and urging the use of gloves.
In response, co‑owner Laura posted a video explanation citing Environmental Health Officer (EHO) guidance that gloves are optional and that proper hand‑washing is the essential hygiene measure. She defended the practice and criticised the online criticism as “toxic”. The incident highlights public concern over food‑handling standards in UK pubs.
