Leandro Grass pledges support for transport workers in Distrito Federal campaign

Leandro Grass, the Workers' Party (PT) candidate for the government of the Distrito Federal, is campaigning on a platform of supporting public transport workers. During a visit to the Asa Sul Terminal, Grass pledged that if elected, he would ensure the retention of fare collectors in the system and prevent layoffs. He proposed expanding the public transport network to create more employment opportunities.

Grass criticized current Governor Celina Leão, accusing her of attacking workers and failing to resolve basic collective bargaining issues, such as salary adjustments. He contested claims of financial instability within transport companies, noting that the government recently transferred over R$600 million to the sector.

A sociologist and former district deputy, Grass previously served as the president of Iphan until February 2026. This marks his second run for the Distrito Federal governorship, following a second-place finish in 2022. Recent polling indicates a technical tie between Grass and Celina Leão for the upcoming election.
