Leaning Tower of Pisa ascent realized for child with rare disease

Vittoria, an eight-year-old girl living with a rare neurodegenerative disease, fulfilled her dream of climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa through a coordinated community effort. To accommodate her condition, the ascent took place before the monument opened to the general public.

Local volunteer groups, including the Magistrature di San Martino and Santa Maria of the Gioco del Ponte, assisted in carrying her up the stairs using a specialized chair provided by the Pubblica Assistenza of Ponsacco. The Opera della Primaziale Pisana facilitated the inclusive access.

The initiative serves as a moment of respite for the family, who are currently organizing fundraising efforts to support Vittoria's upcoming medical treatment abroad. Local associations have already raised nearly 100,000 euros to assist with her needs.
