Leanne Kiernan joins Newcastle United Women from Liverpool

Irish international forward Leanne Kiernan signed a permanent deal with Newcastle United Women, moving from Liverpool after five seasons. The 27‑year‑old forward made 76 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals, and was the club’s top scorer in the 2022 promotion campaign. The transfer fee was undisclosed.

Kiernan, a 38‑cap Republic of Ireland player, said she is excited for a fresh start and hopes to help Newcastle achieve promotion from the Women’s Super League 2. She joins a squad managed by former Northern Ireland coach Tanya Oxtoby, who praised her pace and intelligent movement. Newcastle finished sixth in WSL 2 last season, nine points off the promotion places.
