Chinese automakers expand global presence through new brands and local production

Chinese automotive manufacturers are aggressively expanding their presence in international markets through new brands and localized production strategies. Chery Automobile is reportedly considering bringing its overseas-focused Jaecoo and Omoda brands to China to target the premium market and bolster domestic sales following a significant decline in local volumes.

In Europe, Leapmotor is utilizing Stellantis facilities in Zaragoza, Spain, to produce the B10 SUV. By performing key manufacturing processes like stamping, welding, and painting locally, the model can be classified as ‘made in Europe,’ allowing it to bypass the 30.7% EU customs duties applied to Chinese-made electric vehicles. Leapmotor is also introducing the B03X crossover to the Spanish market with competitive pricing.

Chery is also establishing a footprint in France with its Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 models, supported by a growing dealership network and local parts storage. Meanwhile, the company is conducting rigorous safety testing for its Chery Super Hybrid technology, including battery submersion tests in Romania to validate the durability of its Tiggo 9 CSH plug-in hybrid.
