Leapmotor International starts battery plant in Mallén, Spain

Leapmotor International, the joint venture between Stellantis and Chinese automaker Leapmotor, will open a battery‑assembly plant in the Zaragoza municipality of Mallén on 31 July. The facility represents a €25 million investment, will cover about 34 000 m² (19 000 m² built), and is designed to produce roughly 60 000 battery modules per year, with the capacity to reach 100 000 units during peak demand.

The plant will employ around 90 workers and involve a local supply chain of about ten Aragonese companies. It will initially assemble batteries for Leapmotor’s B‑platform, notably the B10 SUV, and is expected to support future models such as the B05 and a planned C‑segment electric SUV for Opel. Spanish Economy Minister Eva Valle highlighted the project as a step toward strengthening Aragón as a European hub for electric‑mobility, emphasizing knowledge transfer and the creation of local industrial expertise.
