Leapmotor reaches 1.5 million EV deliveries, sets 2026 target of 1 million sales
Chinese electric‑vehicle maker Leapmotor announced that cumulative global deliveries have passed the 1.5 million mark, a rapid rise that began with its first car in June 2019. The company recorded a record 81,569 deliveries in May 2026, an 81 % year‑over‑year increase, and shipped over 75,000 vehicles abroad in the first five months of the year.
For 2026 Leapmotor aims to deliver one million vehicles worldwide, expecting 850,000‑900,000 from the Chinese market and 100,000‑150,000 from overseas. New model launches are projected to provide about 40 % of sales, while refreshed existing models will account for the remaining 60 %. The firm is expanding its premium D‑series while keeping the C‑series and low‑cost A‑series as volume drivers.
Internationally, Leapmotor now operates in more than 40 countries with a network of over 2,000 sales and service points and holds roughly 30 % of Italy’s battery‑electric car market. Through its joint venture with Stellantis, the company plans a dual‑production footprint: a dedicated European factory set to break ground in Q2 2026 and CKD assembly at Stellantis’s Spanish plant from Q4 2026, complemented by further expansion in Southeast Asia. Despite strong sales growth, gross margins fell to 9.4 % in Q1 2026, highlighting ongoing profitability challenges.
