Leapmotor unveils new vehicle architecture and battery technology

At the Leapmotor Tech Day 2026 held at its Huzhou battery plant, Chinese automaker Leapmotor unveiled two major technological advancements slated for its 2027 model lineup.

The first is the LEAP 5.0 New Mobile Space Architecture, a skateboard-style hardware platform designed to maximize interior space and efficiency. By utilizing a completely flat floor, a vertical shock absorber arrangement with an aluminum turret, and an all-in-one integrated powertrain and climate control system, the architecture aims to increase interior height by approximately 64%. This design also reduces component counts by 18% and increases longitudinal cabin space by 19%.

The second innovation is the Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) 3.0 High-Low Fusion Battery. This system integrates battery cells directly into the vehicle chassis, eliminating the need for separate modules. The new technology manages both high and low voltage functions within a single module, sharing thermal management and energy distribution. This advancement reportedly offers seven times the capacity of the previous generation and eliminates the need for traditional 12-volt lead-acid auxiliary batteries.
