Learjet crash in Florida kills nine people

A Learjet aircraft crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida, resulting in the deaths of nine people. The passengers included a tech entrepreneur, his wife, two children, two adult friends, a nanny, and two pilots.

Investigators noted that important pieces of the aircraft appeared to have separated before the crash. The co-pilot, 20-year-old Nathalia Filgueiras, was heard on radio transmissions reporting an overspeed condition and a rapid descent of 20,000 feet per minute while encountering ice buildup and a thunderstorm. Her family and aviation experts have highlighted her composure during the emergency.

The flight was en route to the Bahamas at the time of the accident. The captain, 55-year-old Jeff Gregory, is believed to have been at the controls during the descent.
