Leatherback Turtle returns to nest at Marang Beach, Malaysia

The Terengganu Fisheries Department has reported a significant ecological event at Marang Beach, where a critically endangered Leatherback Turtle returned to nest. This marks the first time the species has been recorded nesting in this area since 2017.

Authorities discovered a massive track measuring 2.1 meters wide and located a nest containing 44 eggs, each approximately 52 mm in diameter. To ensure a high hatching success rate, all 44 eggs have been relocated to the Rantau Abang nursery. The first hatchlings are expected to emerge within seven to nine weeks.
