Lebanese Health Minister discusses universal health coverage
Lebanese Public Health Minister Rakan Nasser al-Din inaugurated the second medical-surgical conference at the Raymond and Aida Najjar Medical Center within Saint Joseph University Hospital. During the event, the Minister emphasized the critical nature of healthcare, noting that while citizens may find alternatives for other basic services, they cannot wait for emergency care or essential medicine.
Nasser al-Din expressed frustration regarding the Parliament's failure to pass the universal health coverage law. He noted that although the law had been approved by the parliamentary health committee, its failure to pass the full House has prevented the securing of necessary funding for Lebanese citizens who currently lack coverage from any guaranteeing entity.
