Lebanese leaders meet with American Task Force on Lebanon

Lebanese political leaders met with a delegation from the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), led by Edward Gabriel, to discuss the country's security and sovereignty.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri described the situation in southern Lebanon as “intolerable,” comparing the destruction in the region to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Berri stated that the United States is the only power capable of forcing Israel to implement a ceasefire and withdraw to the international border. He noted that the immediate deployment of the Lebanese Army south of the Litani River is contingent upon such a withdrawal, ensuring the military remains the sole armed force in the region.

Kataeb Party leader Sami Gemayel also met with the ATFL delegation, emphasizing the need for U.S. support to defend Lebanese sovereignty. Gemayel characterized the current period as a “historic circumstance” that offers a chance to transition from a state of militia influence and collapse toward a modern, stable state. He expressed hope that the ATFL would continue to act as a voice for Lebanese aspirations within American decision-making circles.
