Lebanese MP Ali Fayyad warns of rising sectarianism

During a Hezbollah memorial ceremony for Hussein Ali Hazime in the town of Qana, Lebanese Member of Parliament Ali Fayyad warned of a rising sectarian and chauvinistic movement within the country. Fayyad stated that this internal movement is conducting an undeclared civil war through political figures, municipalities, and media outlets, practicing discrimination and threatening national unity.

Fayyad criticized the authorities for remaining silent and accused the judiciary of being biased and selective. He argued that these divisive efforts are creating psychological barriers and social fragmentation, which he described as projects of self-destruction that undermine Lebanon's identity and future. He called on the state, security services, and the judiciary to protect the unity of the Lebanese people as mandated by the constitution.
