Lebanese officials express frustration with US over Israel negotiations

Lebanese officials have expressed frustration with the United States regarding the implementation of the Framework Agreement, which aims to facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territories. During recent meetings with US Ambassador Michel Issa, discussions focused on the obstacles preventing the resumption of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.

Lebanese representatives have called for the US to exert pressure on Israel to establish a clear timetable for withdrawal. They have specifically requested that the second phase of the agreement include broader areas, such as Bint Jbeil or Khiam, to demonstrate US commitment to its promises.

In contrast, Ambassador Issa has reportedly focused on the Lebanese government's progress regarding the disarmament of Hezbollah. The US position suggests that advancement in the disarmament process is a prerequisite for transitioning to subsequent stages of the agreement and achieving a full Israeli withdrawal. Tensions remain high due to Israeli military actions and disputes over specific sites, such as the Ali al-Tahir location, which complicates the disarmament plan.
