Lebanese Parliamentarians oppose government disarmament plans
Members of Lebanon's Loyalty to the Resistance parliamentary bloc have criticized the Lebanese government's recent decisions regarding the disarmament of resistance forces. Legislators Hussein al-Hajj Hassan and Hassan Ezzedine warned that following American dictates poses a significant threat to Lebanon's national defense and sovereignty.
The lawmakers accused the government of yielding to pressure from the United States and Israel. Specifically, they alleged that the U.S. Secretary of State has interfered in Lebanese judicial affairs and that the U.S. Ambassador has pressured parliamentarians to repeal laws regarding sanctions against Israel.
The criticism comes amid ongoing tensions following a framework agreement mediated by the U.S. intended to end hostilities. Critics of the agreement point to legal ambiguities and the lack of a clear timeline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of southern Lebanon.
