Lebanese political source criticizes Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem
A high-ranking political source has criticized a statement issued by Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem, describing it as a departure from the collective national will. The source argued that the statement seeks to impose a fait accompli and continues a policy of adventure that has resulted in destruction, displacement, and economic collapse in Lebanon.
The critic expressed concern that Qassem is placing decisions regarding war, peace, and national sovereignty outside the control of state institutions and the will of the Lebanese people. The source noted that while the Hezbollah leader speaks of national unity, he imposes preconditions on others based on party constants rather than the constitution or the principle of equal national partnership.
Furthermore, the source highlighted that Hezbollah’s refusal to subject its weapons and military strategy to state authority undermines serious national debate regarding the exclusivity of arms. The statement also criticized the attempt to present continued armed resistance as the only option for Lebanon, which the source claims ignores the immense cost paid by citizens and the need for state-led stability and reconstruction.
