Lebanon asserts right to prosecute Israel for military aggression

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has reaffirmed Lebanon’s sovereign right to pursue international legal action against Israel for military aggressions within its territory. Berri stated that seeking judicial accountability and reparations for damages is an “unrenounceable prerogative” following an offensive that has reportedly killed over 4,300 people and displaced more than one million citizens.

During diplomatic meetings in Beirut, Berri emphasized that the primary obstacle to a lasting ceasefire is Israel's repeated failure to comply with previous international agreements. He identified the United States as the party with the necessary influence to pressure Israel into halting its military operations.

Additionally, Berri warned against the potential withdrawal of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He described any attempt to dismantle the peacekeeping mission as a “grave error,” noting that the mission remains a critical element in the region despite ongoing reports of airspace violations and artillery fire in southern Lebanon.
