Lebanon: Autumn rains exacerbate war damage in Beirut suburbs
Recent autumn rains in Lebanon have exacerbated the living conditions for residents and shop owners in the southern suburbs of Beirut (Dahieh), who are struggling with damage caused by recent conflict. Broken glass, cracks, and damaged entrances have become entry points for water and wind, forcing many to confront the consequences of war through urgent repairs.
Many residents had previously delayed restoration work due to high costs or the fear that renewed hostilities would cause further damage. While some have begun repairing their homes at their own expense to make them habitable, others remain unable to afford necessary fixes. The financial burden is particularly heavy for families who have already suffered months of lost income, leaving them to balance the costs of housing, work, and basic living essentials.
