Lebanon begins public sector reform by canceling redundant jobs
Lebanon has begun a process of administrative reform by canceling redundant public sector positions, starting with the Ministry of Health. Data indicates a high vacancy rate in general administrations, reaching approximately 74.65 percent. Within the Ministry of Health specifically, only 344 out of 1,315 positions are occupied, leaving 971 vacancies.
Studies by the Civil Service Board suggest that between 12,000 and 13,000 unnecessary positions could be eliminated across the state. While canceling vacant roles does not provide immediate savings, it prevents future expenditures on salaries, benefits, and pensions. This move is seen as a step toward modernizing the administrative structure and utilizing digital development to reduce the need for manual staffing, rather than imposing new taxes on citizens.
