Lebanon condemns Israeli destruction in southern security zone

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has condemned what he described as the ‘systematic destruction’ of southern Lebanon by Israeli forces. Salam stated that the demolition of homes, infrastructure, government buildings, and places of worship constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz visited the southern region on Wednesday, reaffirming Israel's commitment to maintaining a 10-kilometer-wide ‘security zone’ along the border. Katz stated that the military is actively destroying underground infrastructure and ‘all the houses’ in the area to protect northern Israel from Hezbollah attacks.

The conflict, which escalated in March, has resulted in more than 4,300 deaths according to Lebanese authorities. While a framework deal reached in late June aimed for Hezbollah's disarmament and a gradual Israeli withdrawal, reports of intermittent strikes and ongoing demolitions continue.
