Lebanon explores regional integration through transport and port development
Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, met with a World Bank delegation to discuss a study titled ‘Lebanon: Gateway to Regional Integration.’ The study aims to evaluate opportunities for enhancing Lebanon’s regional connectivity across the transport, trade, and energy sectors. Key objectives include identifying priority reforms and investments to develop infrastructure and integrate with regional markets and networks.
The discussions focused on the importance of developing transport networks and logistics, specifically highlighting the roles of the Beirut and Tripoli ports in connecting Lebanon to regional trade corridors. The meeting addressed the potential for private sector involvement and mobilizing necessary financing to support economic recovery and growth.
In a separate development, a delegation from the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lebanon (CCI France Liban) visited the Port of Beirut. Led by President Maxence Dieu, the delegation met with Port Director General Marwan Al-Nafi to review port operations and ongoing development projects. Al-Nafi noted that several projects have moved from the planning to the execution phase, aiming to modernize operations and strengthen the port’s position within international trade routes, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
