Lebanon faces flash floods and heavy rain

Heavy September rains have caused flooding and flash floods across various parts of Lebanon. A medium-intensity low-pressure system, centered southwest of Turkey, is bringing cold air masses, active winds, and scattered heavy rainfall to Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean basin.

Meteorological warnings have been issued for several regions, including Akkar, North Lebanon, Byblos, Batroun, Jounieh, Beirut, Sidon, and Tyre. Experts warn of potential flash floods, rising water levels, lightning, and hail. In Tripoli, a fallen tree caused material damage to a vehicle, and in Anfeh, a large scaffolding collapsed on a coastal road due to the weather.

While the rain has caused road flooding and localized damage, farmers have welcomed the precipitation as it will assist in irrigating crops such as olives, citrus, and apples ahead of the harvest season. The weather is expected to stabilize gradually starting Saturday afternoon.
