Lebanon faces political shifts and economic liquidity challenges

Various political and economic developments are unfolding in Lebanon. Reports indicate that prominent Shia businessmen are increasingly purchasing real estate in tourist areas outside of Hezbollah's traditional sphere of influence, a trend that has drawn scrutiny.

In Baalbek, the Minister of Health has been tasked with visiting the Baalbek Castle and its warehouses to address concerns regarding the existence of tunnels, a move seen as an attempt to provide international assurance following recent tremors near the site.

Economically, the government is expected to focus on increasing local revenues due to resource scarcity. A unified registry for depositors may be utilized as a technical tool to manage the distribution of deposit recoveries and identify overlapping accounts across financial institutions. Meanwhile, Ministry of Finance measures intended to limit public spending have reportedly exacerbated liquidity issues within the financial and commercial sectors.

On the security front, high projectile counts have raised international concerns regarding the stability of transitional arrangements. Additionally, diplomatic channels reportedly notified Lebanese authorities of a decision to release Lebanese prisoners shortly before the official announcement was made in Israel.
