Lebanon Ministry of Agriculture praised for fisheries management efforts

The Independent Activists Association (IndyACT) has issued a statement praising the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture for its recent efforts to protect fisheries and manage the maritime fishing sector.

Key initiatives highlighted by IndyACT include the organization of a national fisheries conference, the signing of a memorandum of understanding with civil society to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the establishment of a technical committee for fishing and aquaculture.

The association also noted the development of a comprehensive management strategy and the incorporation of civil society feedback into amendments for the new fishing law currently under discussion in Parliament. IndyACT emphasized that its support for Minister Nizar Hani is based on the ministry’s willingness to engage in transparent dialogue and include independent expertise in public policy formulation.
