Lebanon Parliament Set to Approve General Amnesty and End Death Penalty

The Lebanese Parliament will hold a two‑day session on 11‑12 August 2026 to consider a package of legislative proposals. Key items include a law to abolish the death penalty and a general amnesty that would release detainees who have served 12 years, affecting around 120 Islamic prisoners and potentially freeing high‑profile figures such as Sheikh Ahmed al‑Asir.

The agenda also contains measures to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14, restructure banks, and a fast‑track bill on oil transport.
