Lebanon proposes ban on real estate sales in occupied border areas
Lebanese Finance Minister Yassin Jaber has initiated a legislative move to prohibit real estate transactions in occupied border areas. This decision follows reports of attempts to purchase large properties in these regions, particularly in coastal areas stretching from Mansouri and Bayda to Naqoura.
Reports indicate that individuals acting as lawyers in the United States have contacted Lebanese landowners in these occupied villages, offering sums exceeding current market values. The government's intervention aims to prevent long-term demographic shifts and the potential permanent annexation of these territories.
The Minister has issued a decision to prevent land registry offices from completing any sales in these zones and has referred a draft law to Parliament to formally ban such transactions and nullify any existing sales processes.
