Lebanon reactivates Ministry-funded organ transplantation
Lebanese Minister of Public Health, Rakan Nasser El-Din, has announced the reactivation of organ transplantation procedures funded by the Ministry. This move follows a five-year hiatus in such operations within the country.
During a tour of Al Rasoul Al Azam Hospital in Beirut and Saint George Hospital University Medical Center, the Minister visited three patients who received organs from a single donor. The procedures included one heart transplant and two kidney transplants.
To formalize the sector, a national committee comprising doctors and representatives from academic hospitals will be established. This committee is tasked with drafting the necessary implementing decrees to regulate organ donation and transplantation in Lebanon. The Minister emphasized that the Ministry will cover the costs for heart, kidney, and liver transplants conducted under this framework.
