Lebanon recovery priorities discussed at LAU and KAS seminar
The Lebanese American University (LAU) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) co-hosted a high-level seminar focused on Lebanon’s political and economic priorities, specifically regarding post-conflict recovery, institutional transformation, and democratic governance.
During the event, Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bsat presented a roadmap titled ‘Lebanon 2.0.’ He noted that while the current economy operates at approximately $33 billion, its structural potential reaches $100 billion. Bsat emphasized that unlocking this potential requires non-negotiable structural reforms, full state sovereignty, and the state’s exclusive control over weaponry.
Political expert Chantal Sarkis addressed the gap between legislation and implementation, arguing that many reform laws remain ineffective due to administrative inflation, political deadlock, and a lack of judicial independence. She called for streamlining the public sector and eliminating administrative bureaucracy to ensure constitutional governance.
