Lebanon security forces seize large quantities of explosives in multiple operations
Lebanese security forces have intercepted multiple large shipments of high explosives over a 12-day period, raising concerns about organized smuggling networks and potential political instability.
Between October 1 and October 12, the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces conducted several operations along the Lebanese-Syrian border and on roads leading to Beirut. Notable seizures include 562 kg of TNT and 206 kg of C4 at a checkpoint in Dahr al-Baidar on October 8, as well as various amounts of TNT and rocket projectiles in the Qasr-Hermel region.
Two individuals suspected of belonging to Hezbollah were detained following a major seizure in Dahr al-Baidar. The suspects were handed over to the Lebanese Army Military Police, and Judge Claude Ghanem is overseeing the investigation. The frequency and scale of these interceptions have prompted fears in Beirut regarding potential plots for political assassinations.
