Lebanon transport authority vows to prosecute assaults on drivers

The Public Establishment for Railways and Shared Transport in Lebanon has issued a statement condemning repeated and ‘barbaric’ assaults against its drivers and buses. The institution emphasized that the dignity of its drivers and the prestige of the state are ‘red lines’ that will not go unpunished.

The establishment noted that while it strives to provide essential services to Lebanese citizens amidst the country’s major crisis, it is facing individuals who violate public order in front of passengers, including women and the elderly. Such actions, described as ‘thuggery,’ negatively impact the culture of using public transportation.

The institution called upon the judiciary and security agencies to take decisive action against these violations. It expressed gratitude to the Minister of Interior, the judiciary, and the Director General of General Security, Major General Hassan Choukair, for taking swift measures to deter violators. It also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamni.
