Lebanon's Agriculture Minister Hani Discusses Implementation of New Marine Fishing Law with MP Saad

Lebanese Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani received Member of Parliament Osama Saad at the ministry to review agricultural and development issues, with special attention to the marine fishing sector following the passage of a new fishing law in parliament. The meeting examined the practical steps for applying the law, including drafting the necessary decrees and executive decisions to ensure fair and balanced implementation. Both sides stressed the importance of protecting marine resources, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and safeguarding the economic and social interests of artisanal and small‑scale fishers.

Hani affirmed that the ministry is finalising the legal framework in consultation with relevant parties and fishers’ representatives, aiming to strengthen monitoring, curb illegal fishing and support food security. The discussion also highlighted ongoing coordination with parliamentary committees and sectoral bodies to develop comprehensive fisheries legislation and to align the sector with Lebanon’s National Agriculture Strategy 2026‑2035.
