LeBron James free agency sparks $50M Lakers contract proposal

LeBron James, 41, finished a record 23rd NBA season as an unrestricted free agent after his two‑year, $101.3 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers expired. James said he is “unsure” about his future, adding, “When I know, you guys will know,” and indicated he will discuss options with his family before deciding.

Analyst BA Turner publicly suggested a possible structure for a return to Los Angeles: a two‑year contract worth $25 million per season, with a player option and a no‑trade clause, totaling $50 million. The proposal would give James full control over his exit timeline while keeping the Lakers’ salary cap flexible.

Other teams have been linked to James, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, where mutual interest has been reported, and the Golden State Warriors, which could reunite him with Stephen Curry. Additional contenders such as the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs have been mentioned, each depending on James’ willingness to accept a reduced salary.

The discussions centre on James’ championship ambitions, salary‑cap constraints, and the ability of any suitor to accommodate his preferred contract flexibility.
