LeBron James Reserved Spot on 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Basketball Team

USA Basketball has set aside a roster slot for veteran forward LeBron James should he decide to compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The plan was disclosed by ESPN insider Brian Windhorst, who said the spot will be kept open for James if he wishes to return, despite his public statements that his Olympic career is over. James, now 43, would become the oldest player ever to appear in Olympic men’s basketball. He already holds three gold medals (2008, 2012, 2024) and a bronze from 2004.

If James opts in, the reserved spot would come at the expense of a younger player on the U.S. roster, which includes prospects such as Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brunson. James is under contract with the Philadelphia 76ers through the 2027‑28 season, meaning he could be in game shape for the July 2028 Games held in his adopted home city of Los Angeles.
