LeBron James reveals original plan to retire with New York Knicks

During the Philadelphia 76ers Media Day, LeBron James revealed that his original plan was to retire as a member of the New York Knicks. The 41-year-old star expressed a deep respect for Madison Square Garden, calling it the “No. 1 arena in the world” for a basketball player.

James explained that his decision changed after the Knicks won the championship against the San Antonio Spurs. He stated that his competitive nature would not allow him to join a team immediately following their title win, noting, “I couldn’t do it. You would never let me forget it.”

Despite the change in plans, James expressed high regard for the Knicks organization and specifically praised player Jalen Brunson. He emphasized that his move to Philadelphia is driven by the desire to compete for another NBA championship and avoid being a team that loses in the second round.
