Lecce: 72-year-old farmer killed by two Rottweilers in Salento
Giuseppe Pampo, a 72-year-old retired farmer from Leverano, died after being attacked by two Rottweilers in the countryside near Nardò, in the Salento region of Lecce. The incident occurred in the Salmenta area, where Mr. Pampo had gone early in the morning to harvest figs on his property.
His son and nephew discovered his body after he failed to return home for lunch. During the search, the nephew managed to fend off the dogs with a heavy stick, allowing them to escape. Carabinieri investigators have since located the two dogs and their owner at a nearby estate.
Authorities are conducting forensic investigations, including blood sample analysis from the animals, to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the attack. The Procura della Repubblica di Lecce is overseeing the investigation into the incident.
