Lecce to host book presentation on partisan Innocente Casarini

A book presentation will be held on September 29 in Lecce at the Teatro dell’ex Convitto Palmieri to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic. The event focuses on the book ‘Tina. La storia di Innocente Casarini, una emiliana prestata al Salento’ by Laura Giannoccolo.

The book chronicles the life of Innocente Casarini, known as ‘Tina’, a partisan courier during the Resistance in Emilia. After the war, she moved to Salento with her husband, Gianni Giannoccolo, where she became a leader in the Italian Communist Party, a trade unionist, and an active member of the Unione Donne Italiane (UDI). She was noted for her advocacy for the rights of the working and peasant classes in the Salento region.

Through archives, letters, and oral history, the work provides a detailed historical account of her contributions to social justice and civil emancipation. The event is promoted by the Centro Culturale tò Kalòn of Martano and the Società di Storia Patria (Lecce Section), with support from the Province of Lecce and the National Association of Italian Partisans (ANPI).
