Lecce transforms former Navy barracks into public housing

The former Navy barracks in Borgo Piave, Lecce, is being transformed into a public housing complex to address the growing demand for affordable residential units in the coastal area. The renovation project has surpassed 75 percent completion, with building facades already restored and external spaces being reconfigured to include pedestrian areas and playgrounds.

Vice Mayor and Public Works Assessor Roberto Giordano Anguilla stated that the goal is to repurpose the abandoned structure into public housing (ERP) to provide dignified living conditions for families facing economic difficulties. The project is part of the ‘Città RuraLe’ initiative, a special program for urban redevelopment and peripheral security.

The total investment for the restructuring and functional repurposing of the site amounts to 3.5 million euros.
