Lecce union supports University of Salento student housing protests

The Flc Cgil union in Lecce has announced its full support for University of Salento students who have been protesting for several days against high rental costs. Francesca Franza, general secretary of Flc Cgil Lecce, described the situation as an intolerable social crisis affecting the university community and vulnerable populations.

The union is calling on the Municipality of Lecce and other public administrations to take immediate action. Proposed measures include conducting an extraordinary census of vacant private and public properties to create a structural plan for public university and social housing. Additionally, the union is demanding the implementation of regulated, affordable rent prices for students and non-local workers to curb market speculation.
