Lecco and Valsassina offer stargazing opportunities and celestial events

Astronomy enthusiasts in the Lecco and Valsassina regions of Italy have several opportunities for stargazing through organized events and natural celestial phenomena.

In Merate, the Brera Astronomical Observatory (INAF) is hosting public sessions on specific dates in October, November, and December. These events feature historical instruments such as the Ruths and Zeiss telescopes. Other local opportunities include observation sessions at Piani d’Erna organized by the Lecco Planetarium and the Deep Space association, as well as gatherings at Monte Barro in Galbiate.

Looking toward late October 2026, significant celestial events are expected, including the Hunter's Moon (a supermoon at perigee) occurring around October 26. This period will also feature the peak of the Orionid meteor shower on October 21, with potential sightings of 9 to 15 meteors per hour. Additionally, conjunctions involving Neptune, Saturn, and the Pleiades are anticipated during the month.
