Lecco Bione project requires redesign for sport-park

The planned sport-park in the Bione area of Lecco must be redesigned following a services conference held on May 26. Authorities determined that the original plan to build the facility under the Anas viaduct of State Road 36 is unfeasible, as it would hinder essential road infrastructure activities such as surveillance, inspection, monitoring, and maintenance.

Despite the setback for the sport-park, the river renaturation portion of the project remains on track. This component is funded by 800,000 euros from Fondazione Cariplo as part of the ‘Lecco ECO Platform’ climate transition strategy, supplemented by 126,800 euros from municipal resources.

The sport-park was originally part of the ‘Lecco Blue-Green Gateway’ project, which is a candidate for the European Urban Initiative – Innovative Actions. Results for this candidacy are expected by the end of 2026. Simone Brigatti, the Councilor for the Environment in Lecco, stated that while the Cariplo funding is confirmed, the city must now work with urban planning and public works departments to find an alternative solution for the sport-park to secure final project approval.
