Lech Poznań drops out of Champions League, faces Europa League tie after heat‑stifled win
Lech Poznań were eliminated from the Champions League qualifying round after a 4‑1 loss on penalties to Danish side AGF Aarhus. Former Polish international Roman Kosecki blamed coach Niels Frederiksen for the defeat, saying the trainer’s tactical and motivational choices were responsible.
A few days later the Polish champions secured a 2‑1 league victory over Wieczysty Kraków in temperatures above 30 °C, with both teams’ players collapsing on the pitch at full‑time. Coach Frederiksen said he had never seen such extreme conditions and acknowledged the intense pressing demanded during the match.
Lech now turns its focus to the Europa League third‑qualifying round, where it will host KI Klaksvik of the Faroe Islands on 6 August before resuming domestic competition.
