Lech Walesa urges Hungarian PM Peter Magyar to accelerate anti‑corruption reforms

Former Polish president and Nobel peace laureate Lech Walesa told Hungarian prime minister Peter Magyar at a security conference that he had asked Magyar whether anyone from Viktor Orbán’s governments had been imprisoned, adding, “If not, they should work faster.” Walesa said decisive action is needed to dismantle an illiberal state, citing Poland’s own transformation as an example.

He praised Hungary’s recent parliamentary approval of a law establishing the National Office for Protection and Enforcement of Public Assets (NVVH), which will investigate past corruption and recover unlawfully acquired property. Walesa urged Hungarian authorities to act swiftly and decisively on the new anti‑corruption measures.
