Lechería Mayor condemns inhumane power outages in Anzoátegui

Manuel Ferreira, the mayor of the Diego Bautista Urbaneja municipality in Anzoátegui, has described the recent electricity rationing in Lechería as 'inhumane.' On Monday, October 26, continuous power outages affected approximately 70% of the locality.

According to municipal reports, 12 of the 16 or 17 energy distribution circuits serving the area became inoperative for multiple hours. Affected sectors include Eurobuilding, Cerro El Morro, El Parque, Peñón del Faro, Intercomunal, Plaza Mayor, Palmeras, Santa Rosa, Ribadeo, Las Villas, Villas Martinique, and R16. In some areas, such as the El Parque circuit, outages lasted from 9:00 a.m. until nearly midnight due to system overloads.

The mayor has formally demanded that the state electricity company, Corpoelec, implement a planned schedule and official timetable for outages to allow residents to prepare. Ferreira emphasized the impact on vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and businesses, noting that many residents lack backup energy alternatives. The outages also disrupted urban dynamics, forcing the local government to reassign police officers to manage traffic due to non-functional traffic lights.
