LED lighting quality and brass vs steel outdoor lamp choices

Choosing LED lighting for homes requires attention to colour temperature, colour‑rendering index (CRI) and flicker. Warm light of about 2700‑3000 K and a high CRI create a comfortable atmosphere in living rooms and bedrooms, while low‑quality, cool‑white or flickering LEDs can cause eye strain and headaches. Cheap LEDs may emit invisible flicker that can be detected by pointing a smartphone camera at the lit bulb and looking for banding on the screen.

For outdoor luminaires, brass and stainless‑steel housings are preferred for durability. Brass develops a protective patina that resists corrosion and adds a classic appearance, while stainless steel (AISI 316/316L) offers robust resistance to rain, snow, UV, chlorinated water and road salts. Products meeting minimum IP67 (ground‑mounted) or IP68 (flood‑prone) sealing and load capacities of around 20 kN are suitable for garden paths, historic parks, residential driveways and public spaces.
