Led Zeppelin rare unreleased single appears on Antiques Roadshow
A rare, unreleased Led Zeppelin 7-inch single that the band intended to be destroyed has appeared on the BBC programme ‘Antiques Roadshow’. The item was presented to expert Marc Allum during a filming at Caerphilly Castle in Wales.
The record surfaced due to a historical conflict between the band, their management, and Atlantic Records. While Led Zeppelin maintained a strict policy of releasing only full albums rather than singles, approximately 500 copies of a single were pressed following the success of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ in the United States. Manager Peter Grant ordered the batch to be recalled and destroyed, but some copies remained in circulation.
The owner stated he acquired the record in a shop during the early 1970s. Despite some light scratching and a finger mark, Allum estimated the record could fetch approximately £1,000 at auction.
