Lee Chean Chung resigns as Petaling Jaya MP after PKR suspension

Lee Chean Chung has resigned as the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya following a three-year suspension from the People's Justice Party (PKR). Lee stated his resignation was a response to the suspension and allegations that his access to RM3 million in constituency funds had been blocked and redirected by party representatives.

Lee suggested his suspension might be linked to his vocal stances on various issues, including the Urban Renewal Act, foreign worker recruitment, and university admission policies. He expressed confusion regarding the current government's direction and questioned the transparency of constituency fund management.

In response, PKR leadership has criticized Lee's performance. Deputy Secretary-General Bryan Ng claimed Lee was frequently absent from crucial state and local government meetings, including those regarding the Petaling Jaya Local Plan. PKR President Anwar Ibrahim also noted that Lee had been an inactive party member, failing to attend meetings or the party congress for a year. Local officials in Petaling Jaya have stated that constituent services will continue through local councilors and state assembly members despite the vacancy.
