Lee Child discusses transition of Jack Reacher series to Andrew Child

Author Lee Child has clarified the evolving creative process behind the Jack Reacher series, noting that his brother, Andrew Child, is now the primary writer of the novels. While the brothers collaborated on recent works, the transition to Andrew taking full creative control was completed with the novel ‘Chain Reaction’.

Lee Child explained that Andrew writes the manuscripts independently using an improvisational method without a long-term plan. To respect this process, Lee does not see the finished work until the publisher receives it, reading it solely out of interest.

Lee Child views this shift as a natural evolution, comparing the handover of a character to the way a character is passed to film or television. He remains involved in the franchise as a sounding board for Andrew and serves as an executive producer for the television adaptation starring Alan Ritchson.
